School Sport

The P.E. Department seeks to provide all pupils with a structured and well balanced programme of activities that will enhance their understanding of physical activities and improve their performance skills. We seek to promote the value of physical exercise as part of healthy living and to improve pupils’ awareness of the reasons for participation and the opportunities available with in physical activities

We believe that competition in sport is important; our foremost aim, however, is for all pupils to enjoy taking part.

At Cradley High School, in keeping with our splendid facilities, a highly skilled Physical Education team, assisted by visiting specialist coaches, works hard to enable pupils to take part in a wide range of activities at class, school, district and county level. Class lessons feature: athletics; badminton; basketball; cricket; dance; fitness training; gymnastics; lawn tennis; netball; outdoor education; soccer; table tennis; trampolining and volleyball.

Many teams from Cradley High are involved in leagues, tournaments and competitions. This year we hope to build on the success of previous years and have teams participating in Dudley Schools leagues for netball, football, basketball, rounders, cricket, athletics and cross-country.

The school also offers a wide range of extra curricular recreational activities including dance, aerobics, fitness training, badminton, trampolining, soccer and basketball.

Cradley High School pupils have shown their sporting potential at higher competitive levels: our soccer players have gained district representative honours at four age levels; our cross-country runners have represented Dudley in the West Midlands County Championship and our athletes have competed in the West Midlands Schools Championship and the English Schools Athletics Championship. County honours have been achieved by our pupils in netball and golf.

The increasing popularity of girls sport is evident within Cradley High School. In 2003/2004, the Year 10 girls team were Dudley Netball Champions and runners – up in Dudley for both basketball and rounders. The Year 8 rounders team also got through to the Dudley Finals. As with national trend, the growth of girls football is increasing, and the school have won a local league competition in recent years.
