The Modern School Building

Cradley High School is the most modern and attractively designed secondary school in the Dudley area. Completed in 1988, the school and community leisure centre is situated in landscaped grounds with sports fields and tennis courts. The school building itself is spacious and well lit, with carpeted classrooms and corridors, and pleasant internal courtyards and patios. There are numerous specialist laboratories and workshops, equipped with the latest technology, all of which is accessible to our pupils.

Central to the school's working life is the Hub, a multi-media centre comprising a fully networked computer suite, a video studio, an editing suite with electronic imaging facilities, Internet, video-conferencing, interactive CD and library source material, including books, magazines and a video collection.

Technology provision is well represented in other areas of the school. The Science Faculty features six well-equipped modern laboratories. The Technology Faculty comprises specialist workshops; a graphical design studio; and specialist food technology and textiles rooms.

The Arts are also well resourced: the Music suite includes a specialist recording studio and preparation rooms for private use, and the drama studio with associated projection room opens into the Assembly Hall, which accommodates either lecture theatre or flat floor seating. The Art department has two new specialist teaching rooms, allowing a multi-media approach to the subject.

The school has four main computer rooms, with further rooms fitted with networks of computers, laser printers and image scanners. The whole school is networked and pupils have access to a wide range of computer software and hardware including CD Rom drives, Internet, multimedia and video-conferencing. White boards are now in use around the school.

The Leisure Centre offers a sports hall with facilities including badminton and basketball courts, a full size tennis court, five-a-side soccer and indoor cricket. Facing the main sports hall is a separate gymnasium and a fitness room with multi-gym facilities. Upstairs is a viewers' balcony and Conference Suite. In the grounds there are additional courts, pitches and athletics areas.

Our philosophy is that pupils as much as possible should use these facilities. During the school day classrooms, sports areas, the Hub, careers area, computer clusters and grounds are open to pupils - including break, lunchtime and after school.
